ABSTRACT
A etiologia do sorriso gengival é multifatorial, e o correto diagnóstico determinará o plano de tratamento adequado. A erupção passiva alterada ocorre quando, durante a fase final de erupção dentária, não existe a migração apical dos tecidos periodontais estabelecendo uma distância maior que 2 mm entre a crista óssea alveolar e a junção cemento-esmalte. Essa alteração leva ao encurtamento da coroa clínica, podendo levar à exposição gengival excessiva. Para seu tratamento existe a necessidade da remoção combinada tanto de tecido gengival como ósseo. The etiology of the gingival smile is multifactorial and the correct diagnosis will determine a successful treatment planning. Altered passive eruption occurs during the final stages of tooth eruption, when apical migration of the periodontal tissues does not occur, resulting in a distance > 2 mm between the alveolar crest and the cement-enamel junction. This change leads to the shortening of the clinical crown and even further may lead to excessive gingival exposure. For treatment, there is a necessity for the combined removal of gingiva and bone tissue.
